In an average fiscal year (July 1 to June 30), the City of Alcoa issues about 900 Solicitations with a minimum purchase authorization of $1,000.00 or more. Such purchases come to an approximate annual purchasing volume of $24 million dollars annually. In an effort to distribute the much higher volume of repetitive, but lower priced, purchases, the city effectively utilizes its Purchasing Card, or P Card, program. This program allows appropriate employees the flexibility of making purchases in increments under $1,000. Such annual purchases total approximately $1.1 million annually while averaging 7,200 unique transactions – with each purchase averaging a little more than $150.00 per purchase.
