Community Policing Programs

In May 1993, a Community Policing Partnership Program was proposed and groundwork for its implementation began. In July 1994, the department applied for a federal grant for its funding. Awarded in October 1994, the Alcoa Police Department has continued to meet requirements for federal grants and surpassed its initial efforts by adding numerous services. Our commitment to Alcoa citizens is to provide the Quality of Life and the Excellence in Service that they deserve.

The Alcoa Police Department offers the programs and services listed below. Take the time to review these and use them in the future. Please contact APD with comments on these programs or suggestions for new ones.

School Lunch Program - To foster a positive relationship between students and Alcoa police officers, the school lunch program allows the dayshift officers to eat lunch with the students in the Alcoa City Schools. This program does not to promote security but strengthens the student-officer relationship.

Vacation Watch - If a citizen leaves their residence for vacation, department personnel will conduct frequent security checks of that home. Simply call the Alcoa Police Department to arrange for this service.

Business Security Checks - The officers conduct business checks after hours to make certain that doors are locked, and to check for problems such as vandalism or break-ins. The officer will leave a card at the place of business noting the date, time, condition of the premises during the check, and the officer(s) name.

Educational Programs - The Alcoa Police Department is proud to offer a broad array of programs to the community. Gang Awareness, Stranger Danger, Drugs & Alcohol, Safety Issues, Home Security, Domestic Violence, Date Rape, and Child Abuse are just a few of the program topics. The department responds to requests from schools, churches, civic groups, women’s organizations, senior citizen leagues, Boys & Girls Clubs, community centers, and other associations to present programs. Just give us a call to set up your program.

Fingerprinting - APD offers fingerprinting services to its residents and business owners for the first four cards (same person) for $10.00, and $2.00 per additional card. Many occupations require their employees to submit a set of fingerprints as part of their application process. If you need this service, we would be glad to help. Click here or simply call our main telephone number during regular business hours for details.

D.A.R.E. Program - The D.A.R.E Program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) has been in place at Alcoa Police Department since 1996. School Resource Officer George Parker researched this program, and then proposed its implementation to the department. Officer Parker is credited for the success of the department's DARE program.

Other Community Events - The following is a partial list of the events that the Alcoa Police Department supports and participates in every year:

Shop with a Cop

Reindeer Run

Lighting of the Christmas Trees

Christmas Parade

D.A.R.E. Program Graduations

Spring Sprint

Dogwood Arts Festival
