In March 2005, the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program was established. This program engages citizen volunteers wanting to offer their time and skills to department. These volunteers help supplement and support officers and civilian personnel by allowing them to concentrate on their primary duties. Volunteer roles may include serving as an extra set of "eyes and ears," and assisting with other police related activities.
