Property Tax

The City of Alcoa Finance Department is responsible for the collection of all city property taxes and personal property taxes. The City tax year runs from January 1 to December 31 of the current year.

Taxes are due and payable without penalty from September 1st through September 30th of the current tax year. If payment is not received by September 30th, penalties begin accruing October 1st at the rate of 2% per month. After the 2nd Notice of Delinquent Taxes to the property owner receives no response, all unpaid taxes are turned over to the Blount County Clerk and Masterís Office for collection. Please note, taxes must be paid in full. Partial payments are not accepted.

Please note that the City of Alcoaís penalty dates do not concur with other city, county, or state tax dates. According to the municipal code, once the penalty dates have passed, the penalties cannot be waived.

Property tax assessments are made by the Blount County Property Assessor and sent to the State of Tennessee. City taxes are figured based on theses assessments.

For the 2015 - 2016 fiscal year, the property tax rate for the City of Alcoa is $1.96 per $100 of assessed value. If a property owner has questions regarding their assessment, they should contact the Blount County Property Tax Assessorís Office at (865) 273-5850. If you have a question on your City taxes, call (865) 380-4700.

Calculate Your Property Tax

The City of Alcoa annually reconsiders its tax rate as it deliberates budget needs. You can compute your tax amount to see how tax increases/decreases will affect you. First, you need to find your notice from the county tax assessorís office to see the appraisal value of your property. To compute the assessed value you will multiply the appraisal amount by 25% if your property is residential, 30% if your property is commercial personal property, and 40% if your property is commercial. Next you will take the assessed value of your property and divide it by $100 and then multiply that by the tax rate.

Method of Payment

You may pay your City of Alcoa taxes in person at the City Municipal Building with check, cash, or credit/debit card. The Municipal Building is located at 223 Associates Boulevard, Alcoa, TN 37701.
