Message From the Director

The City of Alcoa Planning and Codes Department is located on the first floor of the Municipal Building, adjacent to the Blount Memorial Wellness Center Greenway Loop. The office‘s entrance and convenient parking are found at north side of the building facing Associates Boulevard.

Department staff strives to help customers through the development process from start to finish. The staff is available to answer specific questions by telephone or e-mail. A Codes Enforcement Officer is available from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., to answer any questions and/or issue permits. Permits are issued only when applications have been properly completed and are ready for approval. To schedule an inspection, advanced notice of 24 hours must be given. Planning consultations regarding proposed and existing development projects are scheduled by appointment. The planning and codes staff also provide support to the Alcoa Regional Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Tree Board, Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, and the City Court.

Through sensible planning, codes enforcement, excellent services and public and private partnerships, the City of Alcoa continues to grow into a sustainable community in which current and future residents, business owners and visiting individuals can live, work and play. Alcoa offers a premier, nationally recognized, greenway system, which continues to expand and connect throughout the City’s commercial and residential areas and into outlying jurisdictions. This great scenic amenity, with wetlands, woodlands and mountainous views, offers an increased quality of life for residential and business diversity.

Chris Hamby,
Director of Planning and Codes
