The City of Alcoa Fire-Rescue Department protects a population of 8316 citizens covering 14.8 square miles. This is accomplished using three engines, one rescue truck and one aerial ladder unit. The department also utilizes a hazardous materials unit with all personnel trained to the level of certified hazardous material technicians.
During 2006, the Alcoa Fire-Rescue Department responded to 1131 emergency incidents.

The department is made up of 32 full time employees. There are nine personnel per shift with three shifts protecting the city. Each shift consists of a captain, two lieutenants, three engineers and three firefighters. For additional manpower, there are ten paid on call firefighters available to respond to all structural fires and major incidents.
