Where is the Alcoa Police Department?

What are the office hours of the Alcoa Police Department?

The lobby is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays. Administrative and detective personnel primarily work weekdays during normal business hours.

How do I obtain a copy of a crime/accident report?

You must come into the APD Station lobby. The cost of a standard police report is $5.00 and exact change will expedite the processing of your request. You can also mail a $5.00 check payable to the City of Alcoa to request a report. There is no charge to the victims involved.

How long before a police report is available?

It generally takes until Noon the next day before a report is completed and placed in the station files for distribution.

When can I be fingerprinted for job applications, permits, etc?

Fingerprinting is done by appointment only. For an appointment, please call (865) 981-4111, ext. 5278. Photo ID is required for persons needing fingerprints. You must bring your fingerprint cards with you. Most employers requiring fingerprinting will provide you with the appropriate cards. The fee for the first three (3) cards is $10.00. If more cards are needed, there will be an additional cost of $2.00 per card. The Alcoa City Schools are exempt from the payment of the fee.

My car was towed. What do I have to do to get it back?

The registered owner needs to respond to the APD station to obtain a vehicle release. If the registered owner does not have a valid driver’s license, they must bring someone with them who does. Before the vehicle can be released, you must prove ownership with a picture ID and the vehicle registration. All ownership documentation must be current with the Department of Safety. You will need to contact the tow company to find out what their fees are for your vehicle. If all requirements are met, you will be issued a release form by the police department. Take that form to the tow company, pay their fees and your vehicle will be released to you. Vehicle releases are processed anytime the station lobby is open. For after hours, please call (865) 983-3620 and ask for a supervisor on duty.

Whom do I speak with regarding a parking ticket or traffic ticket that I received?

If you receive a parking citation or moving violation and wish to contest the validity or merit of the ticket, you may call (865) 981-4111.

Does Alcoa have a curfew for juveniles?

Alcoa Municipal Code Section 11-708 Curfew for Minors describes the ordinance for minors. “It is unlawful for any person who has not reached his/her eighteenth (18th) birthday to loiter, wander, stroll, or play in or upon the public streets, sidewalks, highways, roads, alleys, parks, playgrounds or other public grounds, public places, public buildings, places of amusement, eating places, vacant lots or any place unsupervised by an adult having the lawful authority to be at such places between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Sunday through Friday and between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Friday through Sunday”; with some exceptions. The exceptions include when the person is accompanied by an adult; on an authorized errand or out during curfew hours while employed. However, remember, if a police officer observes a person who appears to be under the age of eighteen years of age, he or she has the authority to detain that person to determine if they are in violation of the curfew laws. How do I recover found/held property?

Property is returned by appointment only. Please call (865) 981-411, ext 5278 for an appointment. For items of evidence to be returned, proof that the court has approved the return of the item and your photo ID must be provided. For all other property, a photo ID and any documentation confirming that you own the property must be provided. In the event that there is no paperwork proving ownership, you must be able to properly describe the property you are claiming.

How do I get to the Blount County Justice Center?

From Knoxville/McGhee Tyson Airport, go south on Alcoa Highway (129). After passing the airport, veer left toward the Great Smoky Mountains/Alcoa. Go straight through nine stoplights and you will reach Lamar Alexander Parkway (321). At the ninth stoplight, turn right into the Blount County Justice Center. The address is 940 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804. It is located directly across from Blount Memorial Hospital. The Blount County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 865-273-5007 during regular business hours.

How do I get to the Drivers License Testing Center in Blount County?

From Knoxville/McGhee Tyson Airport, go south on Alcoa Highway (129). After passing the airport, veer left toward the Great Smoky Mountains/Alcoa. Go straight through eight stoplights and you will reach Lamar Alexander Parkway (321). At the eighth stoplight, turn right onto Lamar Alexander Parkway. Go straight through four stoplights and at the fourth turn right onto Home Avenue. The Drivers License Testing Center is about ½ mile on the right. What is the new Tennessee Child Restraint Law?

According to Tennessee Code Annotated (T.C.A.) 55-9-602:

• Children under one (1) year of age, or any child, weighing twenty (20) pounds or less, must be secured in a child passenger restraint system in a rear facing position, meeting federal motor vehicle safety standards, in a rear seat, if available, or according to the child safety restraint system or vehicle manufacturer?s instructions. (Note: If the child safety seat has a higher rear-facing weight rating, usually 30 or 35 pounds, it may be continued to be used in a rear-facing position so long as the child?s weight permits. Check the manufacturer’s instructions accompanying the child safety seat for more information.)
• Children ages one (1) through three (3), and weighing more than twenty (20) pounds, must be secured in a child safety seat in a forward facing position in the rear seat, if available, or according to the child safety restraint system or vehicle manufacturer?s instructions.
• Children ages four (4) through eight (8), and measuring less than four foot nine inches (4?9") in height, must be secured in a belt-positioning booster seat system, meeting federal motor vehicle safety standards in the rear seat, if available, or according to the child safety restraint system or vehicle manufacturer?s instructions.(Note: If the child is not between ages four (4) and eight (8), but is less than five feet (5?) in height, he/she must still use a seat belt system meeting federal motor vehicle safety standards.)
• Children ages nine (9) through twelve (12), or any child through twelve (12) years of age, measuring five feet (5?) or more in height, must be secured in a seat belt system. It is recommended that any such child be placed in the rear seat, if available. (Note: If the child is not between ages nine (9) and twelve (12), but is five feet (5?) or more in height, he/she must still use a seat belt system meeting federal motor vehicle safety standards.)
• Children ages thirteen (13) through fifteen (15) must be secured by using a passenger restraint system, including safety belts, meeting federal motor vehicle safety standards.
• Provision is made for the transportation of children in medically prescribed modified child restraints. A copy of Doctor?s prescription is to be carried in the vehicle utilizing the modified child restraint at all times.
• The driver of the car is responsible for making sure that children under age sixteen (16) are properly restrained and may be charged and fined $50.00 for violation of the law. If the child?s parent or legal guardian is present in the car but not driving, the parent or legal guardian is responsible for making sure that the child is properly transported and may be fined for non-compliance.
• Police officers observing violations of this law are permitted to stop drivers and take enforcement action. PLEASE PROPERLY RESTRAIN CHILDREN.
