The Alcoa / Maryville / Blount County Sanitary Landfill is operated by the Alcoa Public Works Department. Sam Holloway, Solid Waste Manager, and the other 17 employees operate the Landfill six days per week, serving the 120,000+ population of Blount County. The Landfill has been through a time of transformation of its operations, closing older out-of-date disposal areas and opening cells that are fully contained for the management of leachate and gasses. The $32 per ton tipping fee is below the state average and is one of the least expensive in East Tennessee. The Landfill is open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The Landfill is closed for the New Years, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holidays. The Landfill closes at noon for Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Christmas Eve.

A recycling drop-off center is located at the Landfill. Materials accepted at the drop-off center include: aluminum cans, newspapers, mixed paper, #1 and #2 plastics, and glass bottles & jars. A tank is also provided for recycling motor oil. Click here for a map to the Landfill.
