11/18/2008 Alcoa Host Open House at New Service Center
|
Alcoa residents, utility customers, and the general public are invited to attend the event with the dedication set for 3:00 p.m. in the Service Center lobby. Facility tours conducted by City of Alcoa employees will follow the dedication from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served in the lunch room. The Service Center complex, located at 725 Universal Street, off Wright Road and Edison Street, sits on the site of the former Veach-May-Wilson and Burruss Lumber companies. Several buildings were razed to make way for the new facility while two buildings were saved and used for warehousing and storage by the City’s Electric and Public Works Departments. The Service Center is a cost efficient facility bringing together and centralizing departments that were housed in five different buildings throughout the City. The new center houses under one roof the Street, Sanitation, Water & Wastewater, Support Services, and Engineering & Administration Divisions of the Public Works & Engineering Department along with the Electric Department and the Meter Division of the Finance Department. The City’s Credit Union and Employee Health Clinic also moved into the Center. C2RL Engineers, located in Alcoa, and Architect’s International, Knoxville, designed the Center. Blaine Construction Corp. was the City’s general contractor for the project.
