04/19/2007    Alcoa Receives High Marks on Sanitary Survey

The City of Alcoa announced today that its water system received an approved rating of 98 out of a possible 100 on the Sanitary Survey recently conducted by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

The survey was conducted in December 2006 at the old water treatment plant and again in February at both the old and new facilities. The survey found the system to be compliant in all areas. Only an administrative deficiency was cited which was in the record keeping log of the turbidimeters at the old plant. The new plant equipment will store this data electronically, thus correcting the deficiency.

Sanitary surveys are conducted by TDEC every 2-3 years. The City had a score of 94 on the last survey in January 2004, with the age of the old plant being a contributing factor.

City Manager Mark Johnson commented, “I want to congratulate and thank both the Water & Wastewater and the Water Treatment Divisions of Public Works for their part in providing the best possible water system to the citizens of Alcoa. I want to compliment them on the fine job they’ve done as indicated by the high score. This is quite an accomplishment seeing that this was done while working in the old facility while the new plant came online.”
