The City received the award for the design and construction of the City’s Consolidated Service Center. This qualifies the Service Center as the state’s nominee for the 2010 APWA Top Ten Public Works Projects of the Year that will be announced at the national conference scheduled for Boston, Massachusetts in August 2010. Factors cited in the award nomination included the Service Center’s reuse of a former industrial site, recycling and reuse of various materials during site cleanup and demolition, and the environmental- and energy-conscious aspects of the project such as constructed wetlands, geothermal heat pumps, computer controlled energy management system, and maximization of natural lighting.
Key contributors to the project included C2RL, Inc. (engineering services), Architects’ International (architectural services), Blaine Construction Corp. (general contractor) and the staffs of the City’s Public Works & Engineering and Electric Departments (design and construction).
