08/22/2007    Middlesettlements Road Closure

The City of Alcoa Public Works and Engineering Department announced today that the portion of Middlesettlements Road from Hunters Crossing Drive to Robert C. Jackson Street will temporarily be closed Monday, August 27th, 2007 due to waterline construction. Only local traffic will be allowed in the area.

The installation of pipe across Middlesettlements will require the road to be closed for the entire day. The road is expected to be reopened to traffic later Monday. The area will be covered with steel plates until repaving can be completed. Provided the base repair has hardened, the final paving will take place Tuesday or Wednesday, again with some interruptions to traffic. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution while the plates are in place.

Motorists are advised that some traffic delays will also occur on Friday, August 23rd as preparation work begins as a crew makes a saw cut in the pavement. The cut will allow for a better pavement repair once the construction work is complete.

The pipe installation is necessary to extend a waterline to provide service to the new Walker Supply site on Middlesettlements Road.
