11/27/2007    Northbound Bypass Exit to be Closed

The City of Alcoa Public Works and Engineering Department announced today the temporary closure of an exit lane off the US129 Bypass. The closure, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, November 29th and 30th, will effect the right turn lane from the US 129 Bypass north, onto Louisville Road south. Northbound traffic on the 129 Bypass needing to turn south (right) on Louisville Road will be directed to exit at Bessemer Street. The closure is required to complete a pipeline crossing on Louisville Road at the US 129 Bypass.

This work is necessary to extend a waterline across to provide adequate fire protection service to the new developments in Hamilton Crossing. Preparation work will begin on Thursday, the 29th, a crew will be making a saw cuts in the pavement to allow for a better repair in the pavement once the work is complete. The pipe work will require the road to be closed for the entire period and will be reopened to traffic once the work is complete. Temporary steel plates will be used while concrete hardens. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution while the plates are in place. Provided the base repair has hardened, the final paving will take place early next week, again with some interruptions to traffic.
