City of Alcoa announced today that recently mailed 2007 property tax notices were calculated at a rate of $2.20 instead of the lower correct rate of $2.10. Officials are investigating the cause of the error which appears to have occurred somewhere in the data transfer process between the City and their third party software vendor. City officials immediately began work to quickly rectify the problem. New notices will be mailed out immediately.
Taxpayers should disregard the first notice and pay the amount indicated on the corrected notice. If payment has already been made based on the original amount billed, a refund will be issued. The City apologizes to its citizens for any inconvenience.
Citizens are asked to call 865-380-4700 with any questions regarding their tax notice.
