06/30/2010 Knoxville Man Killed in Pellissippi Parkway Accident | |

A Knoxville man, Daniel L. Akers, 32, Idlewood Lane, was involved in a single-car accident on Pellissippi Parkway at approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday morning. Mr. Akers, was able to exit his vehicle but was struck by another car at the scene. Mr. Akers 2000 Dodge Viper was eastbound on Pellissippi Parkway when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier. Akers was making a phone call to a relative when he was struck and killed. Kenneth W. Truss, 28, Wheeler Road, Louisville, was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang eastbound on Pellissippi Parkway. Truss stated that he swerved to avoid the crash that had just occurred and was negotiating around an obstacle in the road, when he struck someone who stumbled into his path. Truss and a passenger in his vehicle were wearing seat belts and were not injured during the accident. Both Akers and Truss were taken to Blount Memorial Hospital where toxicology tests were performed. | |
