Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -- Working knowledge of the methods, techniques, and tools involved in general construction;
- Skilled in the operation and general maintenance of heavy and medium weight, tracked and rubber tired construction equipment such as dozers, scrapers, packers, front-end loader, motor graders, and backhoes;
- Knowledge of the use and care of picks, shovels, mowers, automotive equipment, small tractors, etc.;
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting and walking for long periods of time and frequently under adverse field conditions;
- Knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs to assigned equipment;
- Knowledge of applicable safety precautions; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely;
- Ability to work both independently and with others, and to complete daily activities according to work schedule;
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions;
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public;
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written communications;
- Ability to respond to verbal inquiries from management, staff, and customers;
- Ability to effectively present information verbally and/or in writing;
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
- Ability to learn new procedures and to apply the same to a variety of tasks;
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely in areas of congested equipment, vehicular, and/or pedestrian traffic.
