The City of Alcoa advises pedestrians who use the Greenway Trail that a section of the trail between the City of Alcoa Service Center on Universal Street to Hunt Road will be closed indefinitely starting next Monday, September 23, until improvements have been made to the bridges. The closed section is outlined on the map in red.
To maintain pedestrian safety, the City of Alcoa is closing this section of the greenway as improvements are made to the set of bridges in that area. The bridge has been temporarily patched to keep Greenway traffic flowing, but based on the conditions of the patch system, the City of Alcoa Public Works Department has decided to close that part of the trail for safety reasons.
In an effort to continue allowing pedestrian traffic through that area, the Public Works Department has paved a new trail that will serve as an alternate route in that section of the Greenway. The alternate route is highlighted in green on the map.
The City of Alcoa is asking pedestrians and cyclists who use the Greenway Trail to seek alternative routes in this area or use the detour route until the Public Works Department has completed the bridge repair project. Please also note that there will be signage near the trail closure, as well as barricades to block traffic from using the closed route.
