[ARCHIVED] TVA Schedules Maintenance in Chandler Substation Area

The City of Alcoa and City of Maryville Electric Departments have received notification that the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) plans to be conducting routine maintenance and repairs that will affect their Chandler and Stock Creek Substations. On the morning of Saturday, March 24, 2018 loads from the Alcoa Chandler Substation will be temporarily transferred to the Proffitt Springs and Duncan Substations.  The Chandler Substation feeds the northern portion of Alcoa’s electric system that includes Topside Rd, Bear Hollow, Fox Hills, Lakemont, Singleton Station Rd, Wrights Ferry Rd, Rankin Ferry Rd, Louisville, Mentor, Rocky Waters and McGhee Tyson Airport.  This substation is “direct-fed” from TVA and is not part of the interconnected loop that supports most of the substations of the cities of Alcoa and Maryville electric systems.  The same morning Maryville will transfer the load of its Stock Creek Substation to the Rockford Substation.  The Stock Creek Substation feeds the Stock Creek industrial park, the Co-op, and some residential customers near Highway 33.

While TVA’s repairs are expected to be done with little – if any – interruption to the customers served by these substations, there is a slight chance that a problem could be encountered that results in an outage.  If an Alcoa Electric or Maryville Electric customer experiences an outage of any sort, it should be reported as it could be an isolated case and unrelated to the work being done by TVA.  Alcoa customers should call 380-4890 if an outage occurs; Maryville customers should call 273-3300.

All provisions have been made to both minimize the chances of an outage and to restore power as quickly as possible.  Should a very serious problem be encountered it could impact the other local substations fed from the same TVA transmission line: Alcoa’s Proffitt Springs substation and Maryville’s Rockford substation.  Again, should an outage on the transmission line occur, such will be as brief as possible as this work is being closely coordinated between TVA and the two cities.

City of Alcoa Electric customers are reminded that electric outages can be reported and viewed from their mobile devices through the newly released PowerPal app. In addition to reporting a power outage, customers can sign up to receive notice and updates of power outage events. The PowerPal app is a free app available in the Apple App and Google Play stores found by searching for “Alcoa Outage” or entering the direct links for Apple at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/alcoa-outage/id1326245817?ls=1&mt=8, or Google https://play.google.com/apps/
