The contractor employed by the City of Alcoa Electric Department has completed the initial contract of 20 miles of aerial tree trimming. Residents in the trimmed areas of Cold Springs, Old Chilhowee, Nebo and Laurel Valley have already experienced the benefits of the trimming during recent storms with zero outages relating to wind, trees, or limbs in their areas – the biggest factors causing outages.
The City plans to resume its aerial trimming contract in the Bear Hollow and possibly other areas later this year or 2019. When that trimming is scheduled, those in the affected work area with a current telephone number on file with their utility account should receive a voice message regarding the event. Customer using the new PowerPal app and signed up to receive notifications of power outage events will receive text messages.
Customers are encouraged to make sure their account reflects their current telephone number in order to receive voice notifications of power events. Mobile device users can download the PowerPal app to report and view electric outages as well as view and pay their bill. The free PowerPal app is available in the Apple App and Google Play stores.
Questions concerning aerial trimming may be directed to the City of Alcoa Electric Department at (865) 380-4890.
