A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive July 21, 2019 to examine all aspects of the Alcoa Police Department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.
Chief of Police David Carswell states, “The Alcoa Police Department’s participation in the CALEA process is a voluntary effort. The goal is to be nationally recognized as meeting stringent professional law enforcement standards and practices.”
As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the on-site assessment team at a public information session on Monday July 22, 2019 at 5:00 PM. The session will be conducted at the City of Alcoa’s Commission Chambers at 223 Associates Blvd. Alcoa TN 37701. Those who cannot attend the public information are invited to offer comments by telephone. The public may call 865-380-4749 on Monday July 22, 2019 between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 PM and speak to a member of the assessment team.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards.
