[ARCHIVED] Alcoa Police Alert Community to Scam

Phone Scam alert graphic

The City of Alcoa Police Department is alerting the surrounding community to an investigation into a  scam operation that surfaced within the last week both out-of-state and in the Knoxville area. The scam involves a male calling and identifying himself as former City of Alcoa Police Department Detective Sgt. Kris Sanders. The scammer states he is Sgt Sanders and tells the victims that the female with whom they have been chatting using the dating platform "Bumble", is an underage female. To assure the victim is not prosecuted, the male arranges, directly, or through another male caller, to have the victim transfer money, through the Zelle app. If you receive such a phone call, DO NOT give the scammer any financial information but please contact the City of Alcoa Police Department, through dispatch,  at 865-983-3620.
