[ARCHIVED] Herbicide Treatment Scheduled for Duncan and Chandler Substations

News and Announcements (1)

The City of Alcoa Electric Department (AED) announces a project set to begin in June and finish by late summer for herbicide treatment of invasive and overgrown species at Duncan and Chandler substations. The City of Alcoa will provide updates if this timeframe changes.

AED contracted the company Volunteer Vegetation Management, specializing in herbicide treatments that target specific species without harming other plants and trees. Crews will be treating service areas surrounding Duncan and Chandler substations with an EPA approved herbicide. The herbicide is applied using low-volume methods and individual crew members target species that can grow up into the conductors, causing future issues if left untreated. Compatible species such as dogwoods, redbuds, etc. will not be targeted or treated with the herbicide. This herbicide treatment should not affect the air quality in the surrounding service areas.

A list of areas for Duncan Substation includes Rockford, Eagleton Village, Martin Mill Pike, Peppermint Road, Sam Houston School Road, and Hitch Road. A list of areas for Chandler Substation includes Alcoa Highway, Topside Road, Fox Hills Drive, Bear Hollow, Wrights Ferry Road, and parts of the Louisville area.

Motorists should use caution when driving through these areas as crews will be present. AED thanks you for your patience as we work to provide reliable power to our customers and residents.
