The City of Alcoa Electric Department is seeking a career-minded individual for the position of an Electrical Engineering Intern for Spring/ Summer 2025. Internships are first and foremost a learning experience for the student, and an opportunity to develop professionally, work with a knowledgeable team and complete meaningful work. The ideal candidate would possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work well with a team or independently. The candidate needs to currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university as a Junior (3rd year) or Senior (4th year) in an engineering related field.
Some of the essential duties of the Electrical Engineering Intern are as follows:
· Performs computer-aided and manual drafting of mapping and minor design work relative to a variety of maintenance, repair, and improvement / expansion projects associated with an electric distribution system;
· Conducts visual inspection of system components for various system improvement projects;
· Assists in the resolution of customer and system power quality concerns;
· Assists with specification of relay and fuse types and settings;
· Collects field and office data for various studies, reports and engineering designs;
· Learns the methodologies and technologies associated with remote instrumentation and operation equipment such as SCADA, TWACS metering, etc.;
· Assists with the review and updating of underground / overhead construction specifications;
· Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods;
· Assists Senior Engineers and/or Engineer I, II, and III with large projects, as needed;
· Handles special projects, studies and investigations and investigations as assigned;
The hours for this position are part time and flexible to align with class schedules. The starting pay rate is $18.00 per hour.
